On 3 November 2025, governments, civil society, and international partners gathered in Doha to discuss tangible solutions for advancing social development and tackling urgent global crises. These challenges include rising hunger, persistent poverty, increasing inequality, and instability driven by climate change.
The discussions were held during the Doha Solutions Forum for Social Development and the inaugural leaders’ meeting of the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty. Both events took place alongside the Second World Summit for Social Development.
“Too often we face situations where we have no clear solution, no answer to the suffering we see, and it is heartbreaking,” said Annalena Baerbock, President of the UN General Assembly. “Or we have the solution [but] we are either unable or unwilling to do what needs to be done, which is frustrating.”
“Today is different: we are here to avoid falling into those traps, to learn from each other; to benefit from good ideas; to join forces; and to live up to our common principles.”
The event signaled a shift from merely recognizing problems to actively implementing proven approaches to social development and crisis response, fostering collaboration and shared learning among global leaders.
Author's summary: In Doha, global leaders emphasize moving beyond identifying problems toward united, practical action to combat hunger, poverty, inequality, and climate-related instability.
