The Bowling Green State University Democracy and Public Policy Research Network recently released a poll examining Ohio's political landscape ahead of next year’s midterm elections. The survey, conducted last month among 800 registered Ohio voters, reveals tight races across key positions.
According to the poll, former Senator Sherrod Brown and current Senator Jon Husted are in a close contest for Ohio’s U.S. Senate seat. The results are within the poll’s margin of error of 4.5%, highlighting the competitive nature of the race.
In the governor’s race, Republican Vivek Ramaswamy holds a slim lead over former Ohio Department of Health Director Amy Acton and former U.S. official Ryan, who has yet to announce his candidacy officially.
“Ohio will certainly be on many people's minds this time next year,” said Robert Alexander, political science professor at BGSU and co-conductor of the poll.
The poll also indicates a decline in President Donald Trump’s approval ratings among Ohio voters.
“That might explain a little bit of what we’re seeing here,” Alexander added, noting that dissatisfaction centers heavily on economic issues.
Highlighting Ohioans' concerns, Alexander remarked, “A year ago, this was the big question: Who's going to bring down the price of eggs? And today, we see that 56% of all Ohioans are looking at the state of the country's economy and not feeling better about it than they did a year ago.”
Ohio’s political climate remains highly competitive, with voter dissatisfaction particularly tied to the economy influencing key races in the upcoming midterms.
