Prince Harry recently shared whether he intends to become a U.S. citizen, and his response was unexpected. It’s hard to believe five years have passed since he and Meghan Markle moved to the U.S. after stepping back from royal duties.
The couple has made a beautiful home in Montecito, California, launched projects with Netflix via Archewell Productions, and enjoyed many memorable moments with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Life in America has clearly been positive for them.
During an appearance on the Hasan Minhaj Doesn’t Know podcast, Harry was asked directly about his citizenship plans in a segment called “Royal Rapid Fire.”
“There are no plans to be [a U.S. citizen], at this point,” Prince Harry stated.
Born in London and a member of the British royal family, Harry still holds UK citizenship. This surprise answer seemed unexpected after five years in America, as many assumed U.S. citizenship might be on the horizon.
While citizenship is not a priority now, Harry has embraced life in Los Angeles, supporting the local baseball team. He and Meghan were recently seen at Dodger Stadium on October 28, cheering for the Los Angeles Dodgers during Game 4 of the 2025 World Series against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Author’s summary: After five years in the U.S., Prince Harry has no current plans for American citizenship but continues to enjoy and engage fully with life in California.
