Labor Wants You to Be Ashamed of Our Australian Flag
I want to begin by expressing my regret over Senator Dolega's remarks and the offensive suggestions he made about coalition senators and members. According to Labor, it now seems that draping oneself with the Australian flag and being proud of it is considered an offense.
I’ll take that interjection, Senator Dolega. That is exactly what you said. You criticised some of us on this side of politics for having the temerity to drape the Australian flag around us, to be proud of our country.
How can it be seen as dog-whistling to be proud of our country and our flag? I ask through the Chair, how dare Senator Dolega claim such pride is dog-whistling.
Our country is one of the most successful when it comes to migration. Many people want to come and live here because Australia is great. We are a proud migrant nation and a thriving multicultural society, composed of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders who have been here for thousands of years, those who arrived decades ago, and recent newcomers.
Australia stands out as a hugely successful multicultural country.
