The NHS has urged eligible adults to get their flu vaccination now, with just weeks remaining before the most severe part of the flu season typically begins. The early wave of flu cases is hitting the NHS over a month sooner this year, with case numbers three times higher than at the same point last year.
England’s top nurse and Chief Nursing Officer for NHS Sussex, Allison Cannon, has emphasized the importance of timely vaccination. After receiving her flu jab, she shared:
“The flu vaccination is the best possible way to protect yourself and your loved ones against flu as we move into the winter months. It’s a quick and easy painless injection and it really will help you keep yourself and your family well through winter.”
Since the start of the flu vaccine rollout, NHS teams across the UK have administered over 13 million flu vaccines (13,299,775). In Sussex alone, 428,297 vaccines have been administered, covering 43.7% of the eligible population.
The NHS strongly encourages all eligible individuals to come forward promptly for their flu jab to reduce the impact of the flu season on themselves, their families, and the healthcare system.
