Health experts warn of a severe flu outbreak this winter, prompting NHS leaders to issue an urgent "SOS" alert urging vaccinations to protect the public.
According to the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), flu deaths in England increased dramatically last winter, reaching 7,757 compared to 3,555 the previous year. Child fatalities from flu also rose from 34 to 53.
Sir Jim Mackey, NHS chief executive, said, "There is no doubt this winter will be one of the toughest our staff have ever faced," especially with upcoming resident doctor strikes.
Claire Nevinson, superintendent pharmacist at Boots, emphasized the importance of getting vaccinated now to protect against flu and limit its spread.
"Getting vaccinated is one of the best ways to protect yourself against flu and help reduce the spread of the virus."
She urges everyone to secure their vaccine ahead of the winter season.
