Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown is being extradited to Miami to face charges related to an attempted murder case. The incident involves a shooting that occurred outside a celebrity boxing event in May.
Miami Police confirmed on Thursday that 37-year-old Brown was extradited from Dubai to Miami. A public affairs officer for the U.S. Marshals Service stated Brown arrived from Dubai earlier that day via Newark, New Jersey. Upon arrival, he was booked into Essex County Jail in New Jersey.
During his time evading authorities, Brown reportedly posted videos from Dubai. Miami Police spokesperson Officer Michael Vega commented on these posts:
“He was kind of taunting us, saying, I'm safe here, and that's what we interpreted from those videos, but you know what, he was laughing then, we're getting the last laugh.”
Officer Vega added:
“No matter who you are, what power or what money you have, if you commit a crime in the city of Miami, we're going to identify and locate you and bring you to justice.”
A warrant for Brown's arrest was issued in June on charges of attempted murder with a firearm stemming from the May 16 shooting near Northeast 2nd Avenue and 67th Street, outside the event venue.
An off-duty officer working security at the event told investigators that after hearing the gunfire, he left the venue and witnessed Brown engaged in a physical altercation with another individual in the parking lot.
Antonio Brown was apprehended and extradited from Dubai following an attempted murder charge linked to a May shooting at a celebrity event in Miami, underscoring law enforcement's commitment to justice regardless of status.
