Senior Liberal Senator Sarah Henderson has openly questioned Sussan Ley’s leadership amid growing internal tensions within the Coalition regarding the net zero policy.
The Liberal Party faces increasing pressure to clarify its position on net zero emissions, especially as the Nationals have recently abandoned the policy. A decisive partyroom meeting is scheduled for Sunday, November 16, where the Coalition will finalize its stance.
“I cannot support the way things are,” Senator Henderson told Sky News Australia host Peter Stefanovic. “I can't pretend things are good. We've had a dire Newspoll result, a primary vote of just 24 per cent. Things are not traveling well.”
She also expressed concern about Ms Ley’s standing within the party:
“I do have to say, really honestly, I do think Sussan is losing support, but I do believe in miracles, we can turn things around. I don't support things the way they are at the moment.”
