Antonio Brown, former Central Michigan University athlete and NFL player, has been arrested on an attempted murder charge in connection with a shooting incident in Miami.
The charge relates to an event on May 16, following a celebrity boxing match in Miami's Little Haiti neighborhood. Shots were fired after a confrontation, during which Brown was briefly detained by police.
Brown stated on social media at the time: "I had been jumped by multiple individuals who tried to steal my jewelry and cause physical harm to me."
He also wrote, "Police temporarily detained me until they received my side of the story and then released me. I WENT HOME THAT NIGHT AND WAS NOT ARRESTED."
In June, an arrest warrant was issued for Brown. He was accused of seizing a handgun from a security guard and firing two shots at a man involved in an earlier physical fight. Authorities reported the victim was grazed by a bullet on his neck.
Brown was later apprehended in Dubai and transported to Newark, New Jersey, where he is currently held while awaiting extradition to Miami to face the charges.
Miami Police Chief Manuel Morales said in a statement: "Let this serve as a clear message; no matter who you are or where you run, we will pursue the facts, identify you, locate you, and bring you to justice."
The authorities confirm Brown's extradition to Miami will occur soon for prosecution related to the May incident.
Antonio Brown faces serious legal charges after a violent altercation in Miami, highlighting law enforcement’s commitment to pursuing justice regardless of the individual's status.
