Livinia Nixon, a beloved weather presenter who started her on-air career on Hey Hey, It’s Saturday, will continue appearing on the travel shows Postcards and Getaway.
Nixon will step down from her nightly weather role at Nine after 20 years. “I’ve been on air for more of my life than I’ve not,” she said with a smile following the Friday announcement. She added, “I’m looking forward to a breather.”
At 50, Nixon remains with Nine, maintaining her presence on travel programs like Getaway and Postcards, both owned by Nine.
She decided to end her weeknight weather briefings to spend more time with family, especially as her youngest child, Ted, is starting high school alongside his older brother Henry. “It was not a decision I took lightly,” Nixon said, acknowledging the privilege of being welcomed into viewers' homes nightly.
“Presenting the weather has shaped my life and career. I owe this role everything but this is the right decision for me.”
“When I discussed it with our boys, they said ‘we’re pretty excited to spend more time with you, Mum’.”
One of Nixon’s standout live weather crosses took place at Healesville Sanctuary, where she had a green tree python around her neck. The snake wrapped tightly and even attempted to slither into her jacket. “I’d never read the weather as quickly in my life,” she recalled.
Summary: After two decades as Nine’s weather presenter, Livinia Nixon steps back from nightly briefings to focus on family, while continuing to appear on travel shows with enthusiasm for her evolving career.
