RALEIGH, N.C. — Jackson Blake and Sean Walker each recorded a goal and an assist as the Carolina Hurricanes edged the Minnesota Wild 4–3 at Lenovo Center on Thursday night. Andrei Svechnikov and Nikolaj Ehlers also scored, while Frederik Andersen stopped 21 shots for the Hurricanes (9-4-0), who have now won consecutive games and three of their last four.
“Blake is probably the one who needs the most credit for tonight,” said Carolina coach Rod Brind’Amour. “The one goal was all him, and the other was just a great pass.”
Matt Boldy struck twice for the Wild (5-7-3), who entered the game on a two-game winning streak. Goalie Filip Gustavsson made 23 saves. Head coach John Hynes praised his team’s effort against a tough opponent.
“They’re a high-pressure team. There were times I thought we handled it well, and there were times when there was another good team on the ice too,” said Hynes. “We got some looks in different segments of the game.”
Boldy opened the scoring at 5:34 of the first period after Hurricanes forward Mark Jankowski accidentally pushed the puck under Andersen. Boldy capitalized on the loose puck, marking his 300th NHL game with a goal. Soon after, the teams traded three goals in less than a minute during a wild 4-on-4 stretch.
The Hurricanes’ balanced attack and clutch performances from Blake and Walker proved decisive against the Wild’s early momentum.
Author’s Summary: Carolina edged Minnesota 4–3 thanks to Blake’s standout play and Andersen’s steady goaltending, overcoming Boldy’s two-goal effort.
