Organisers received a seven-figure offer from Qatar to host the World Club Challenge match between the Super League and NRL champions overseas. The proposal was seriously considered due to the attractive finances and Qatar's eagerness to secure the event.
Hull KR and Brisbane Broncos declined the lucrative offer, opting to hold the game in the UK next year. The Robins are set to host the fixture in Hull, expecting a sell-out crowd energized by Wigan's victory over the Penrith Panthers in 2024.
Paul Lakin, CEO of Hull KR, said, "Following our Grand Final success, we were considering hosting the game at the MKM Stadium."
Should the game be held at the MKM Stadium, it must take place midweek. Hull City has a home game on the Saturday of that week, and the Robins are scheduled to fly to Las Vegas on Sunday to play Leeds Rhinos at Allegiant Stadium.
Final arrangements are underway, with strong confidence the fixture will proceed as planned.
Summary: Despite a lucrative offer from Qatar, Hull KR and Brisbane Broncos have chosen to host the World Club Challenge in the UK, exploring venues within Hull while managing tight scheduling constraints.
