RSL Victoria is inviting the community to purchase a red poppy in the lead-up to Remembrance Day. This symbolic act honors the memory of those who served and sacrificed during wartime.
Monday, 11 November 2024, commemorates the anniversary of the Armistice that ended World War I hostilities with Germany in 1918. Each year, at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, people across the world pause to remember those who served.
Ceremonies will be held in Ararat, Willaura, and Lake Bolac. All Remembrance Day services are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. across these three communities.
The poppy is known as the "Flower of Remembrance", as they were among the first to bloom on the battlefields of northern France and Belgium after the fighting ceased.
Australia adopted the red poppy emblem in 1921 to honor the fallen and support the living through remembrance and charitable aid.
