It is a political movement focused on creating and maintaining a national home for Jews in Palestine, originally aimed at encouraging Jewish return from the Diaspora.

Це віра в те, що євреї мають право на власну націю; єврейський націоналізм. Zionism received widespread support among Jews and others in the early 20th century, culminating in the founding of Israel in the late 1940s.

This movement is opposed by most Arabs, as related to the ongoing Arab-Israeli conflict.

More recently, two years after the bloody Hamas attack on Israel, supporters of Palestinians disrupted a commemoration at Pomona College, warning that “Zionism is a death cult that must be dealt with accordingly.”

When British officials exclude peaceful supporters of an Israeli team instead of confronting those who threaten them, it revives the same tensions Zionism aimed to resolve.

In 2017 the DSA broke with the ardent socialist Zionism of its founders and endorsed the BDS movement to chants of “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.”
