Well-known TV chef and author Rick Stein will visit Morpeth Waterstones on Thursday, November 13 to sign copies of his latest book, Rick Stein’s Christmas.
Ahead of the event, Caroline Dominey spoke with Rick about his book and the meaning of Christmas to him. Rick Stein’s Christmas is a beautiful tribute to the festive season, inspired by personal memories and traditions.
“It came about simply because my wife (Sarah) has said for years ‘I think you should do a Christmas book’,”
Rick explains that his Australian wife particularly loves experiencing Christmas in the UK. Reflecting on recipes and memories made the project obvious for him. He adds,
“I think we all love Christmas in our heart, it’s something that matters to us in this slightly rainy island and it was a joy to do.”
Rick highlights the festive food as the heart of the celebration — turkey, glazed ham, and homemade chutneys, jams, and mulled wines. Alongside food, he enjoys the musical traditions of the season.
“I actually really love Christmas songs. There is a whole piece in the book about Christmas No 1’s! And I’ve always loved carols and carol services.”
He notes that these traditions, both culinary and musical, hold great meaning for him and others.
Author's summary: Rick Stein’s new book celebrates the joys and traditions of Christmas, blending festive recipes with cherished seasonal memories and music.
