A lifelike sculpture of President Donald Trump, dressed in an orange jumpsuit and strapped to a cross, has sparked conversation and smiles in Basel, Switzerland, where it was recently exhibited.
Created by British artist Mason Storm and titled Saint or Sinner, the sculpture shows the President with closed eyes, positioned on a slightly tilted, padded white cross. This presentation suggests themes of crucifixion or lethal injection execution.
The piece has been on display in Basel since Saturday, following an earlier exhibition in Vienna. Initially, the Gleis 4 gallery planned to showcase it at the Basel central train station starting in September. However, they chose a less crowded location, placing the sculpture in a showcase window on Basler Kunstmeile, a pedestrian area in Basel’s city center.
"It is scary realistic," said Konrad Breznik, owner of the gallery. "When we installed it, we came that close, and you would see every wrinkle and the skin is so realistic, it's really scary."
On Monday alone, electronic counters recorded over 3,000 visitors passing by the installation, reflecting significant public interest.
Author's summary: The hyper-realistic sculpture of President Trump displayed in Basel provokes strong reactions, blending art with political symbolism in a busy public setting.
