Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum has filed charges against a man she described as “completely drunk” after he harassed her in Mexico City on Tuesday. She called the event “an assault on all women.”
The man broke through a crowd greeting Sheinbaum in the central Zócalo neighborhood and appeared to grope her. Viral footage shows him touching her breast and attempting to kiss her while bystanders watched. The situation was stopped when one of Sheinbaum’s top aides, Juan José Ramírez Mendoza, intervened.
“An assault on all women,” President Sheinbaum said, describing her decision to initiate legal action against the “completely drunk” man.
The incident has generated outrage on social media and reignited discussions about harassment and the safety of women in public roles.
This case highlights ongoing challenges women face in public life and underscores the importance of legal responses to harassment.
