Proposition 50, the Congressional redistricting plan supported by Gov. Newsom, has been approved in a statewide election.
The Associated Press declared the election outcome shortly after polls closed at 8 p.m., with voters passing Prop 50.
Californians had sent “a powerful message” to “the most historically unpopular president in modern history.”
The yes vote on Prop 50 was part of a broader Democratic sweep, with Democrats winning governorships in Virginia and New Jersey, and Zohran Mamdani elected mayor of New York City.
Gov. Newsom described the Democratic Party as “a party that is in its ascendency.”
