Democrats Gain Seats in Suffolk and Nassau Legislatures
Democrats have made gains in both the Suffolk and Nassau County Legislatures, unseating a Republican incumbent in Suffolk and claiming an open seat in Nassau.
In Suffolk's 1st District, Democrat Greg Doroski defeated Republican Legis. Stark for the North Fork seat. Suffolk Democratic Chairman Richard Schaffer commented on the results, saying:
“In Suffolk County, when we get knocked down, we get right back up and we’re ready to fight.
No other incumbents were defeated in either county, although results were not yet final in Nassau's 9th district, where Republican Scott P. Strauss was leading Democrat Juleigh Chin.
