Democrats pick up seats in both Suffolk and Nassau legislatures

Democrats Gain Seats in Suffolk and Nassau Legislatures

Democrats made significant gains in both the Suffolk and Nassau County Legislatures, unseating a Republican incumbent in Suffolk and claiming an open seat in Nassau.

In Suffolk's 1st District, Democrat Greg Doroski defeated Republican Legis. Stark for the North Fork seat. Meanwhile, in Nassau, Democrats secured an open seat.

“In Suffolk County, when we get knocked down, we get right back up and we’re ready to fight,” said Suffolk Democratic chairman Richard Schaffer.

No other incumbents appeared to be ousted in either county, although final results were not yet conclusive early Wednesday in Nassau's 9th district.

Author's summary: Democrats gain seats in legislatures.
