Trump Tariffs Impact Decorative Arts Trade in US
Dealers are reducing international purchases due to new import duties, with some tariffs set to rise to 50% in January 2026.
Trump has ordered tariffs on upholstered furniture to rise to 30% in 2026, and kitchen cabinets to 50%.
“I’m in complete shock,” says Millicent Ford Creech, a dealer of antique American and European furniture.
The tariffs, intended to support domestic producers, have caused damage to the international trade in antiques and decorative arts.
