Chilean Retiree Returns Ancient Greek Marble Fragment

Enrico Tosti-Croce's father, an Italian naval officer, had taken a piece of the Acropolis during a visit to Athens.

Tosti-Croce was inspired to return the fragment after hearing on the radio that the Greek government was asking the British Museum to return its famous Parthenon Marbles.

“When I heard the news, I said: ‘Wow, I have a little piece of the Parthenon’”

Tosti-Croce's family moved to Chile in the 1950s, with his father arriving in 1949 and the rest of the family following in 1950.

The Greek government has been fighting for the repatriation of the Parthenon Marbles since 1983, which were taken by Lord Elgin in the early 19th century.
