Tackling Littering in Bengaluru
The Greater Bengaluru Authority and Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited have introduced a unique approach to curb street littering.
Residents can earn a reward of Rs 250 for filming and sharing clips of people dumping garbage in public places through a dedicated WhatsApp number or social media handles.
The campaign, titled "Kasa Surisuva Habba" or the "Garbage Dumping Festival", takes a novel approach to deal with waste disposal issues.
- Civic workers identify offenders and collect the trash they have dumped.
- The trash is then delivered back to the offenders' doorsteps.
- Offenders can face penalties of up to Rs 10,000.
