Lawrence Man Pleads No Contest in 2021 Stabbing Homicide
A Lawrence man, Robert Earl Davis, 58, has pleaded no contest to two charges related to the 2021 stabbing homicide outside a Dillons store.
Davis appeared in court before Douglas County District Judge Sally Pokorny on counts of voluntary manslaughter and animal cruelty, stemming from the January 18, 2021 incident involving Daniel Evan Brooks, 66.
- Brooks was stabbed outside the former Dillons store at 1015 W. 23rd St.
- His dog, Bear, was also stabbed but recovered after being taken to the Lawrence Humane Society.
- Bear was later adopted by Brooks' brother and passed away peacefully in April 2024.
Brooks was killed in the attack.
Davis was convicted on Friday.
