Several complaints from residents about non-functional streetlights led to the discovery of stolen copper wires from dozens of streetlight poles along Vashi Link Road and Thane-Belapur Highway.
The thefts resulted in the loss of 2,880 meters of copper wire, plunging several stretches into darkness and raising safety concerns among commuters.
During an inspection on October 27, workers from M/s Chaitanya Electricals caught two men stealing copper wires from poles near Kokilaben Hospital on Thane-Belapur Road.
No official statement has been released regarding the incident.
