New Landowner Guides to Energy Development
The Pembina Institute has been working on new resources for Albertans to understand their rights and the potential benefits and risks of hosting energy projects on their land.
With support from the Alberta Real Estate Foundation, the institute has updated its resources, including the Landowners’ Guide to Oil and Gas Development.
The book When the Oilpatch Comes to Your Backyard, first published in 2001, formed the basis for the guide.
The fourth edition of the guide, released in October 2025, reflects changes in Alberta’s regulatory landscape over the past decade.
The guide is a comprehensive resource designed to help Albertans understand their rights, responsibilities, and options when oil and gas firms operate on their land.
