Employee Consultation at Rio Tinto-Led Aluminium Smelter
Rio Tinto-backed Tomago Aluminium has begun consulting employees and unions on the future of its smelter operations, seeking a commercially viable long-term energy solution.
Located north of Newcastle, the smelter employs over 1000 full-time staff and 200 contractors from across the Hunter Valley and Central Coast.
Ensuring that our people are safe while they are at work is one of the main drivers of our business.
The consultation, open until 21 November, follows a three-year market-sounding process to secure affordable electricity beyond December 2028.
