Microsoft Partners with Canadian Cleantech Company

Microsoft has signed a 10-year deal with Arca Climate Technologies Inc., a Canadian carbon-removal company, to help counter rising emissions from its data-centre and AI operations.

The partnership involves the purchase of nearly 300,000 tonnes of permanent carbon removal credits, marking a significant commercial deal for the Canadian carbon tech sector.

Arca landed the contract with Microsoft after demonstrating its process in an 18-month pilot at BHP Group Ltd.

The deal is worth an undisclosed amount and will support Microsoft's efforts to reduce its carbon footprint from its expanding data-centre, artificial intelligence, and supply-chain operations.
