The issue started around noon ET, and Microsoft has acknowledged the problem on the service's status page, stating:
We suspect that an inadvertent configuration change triggered this issue.
Multiple Microsoft services, including Microsoft 365, Xbox, and Minecraft, have gone offline, as well as websites from other businesses, such as Costco and Starbucks.
This outage occurs just hours before Microsoft's earnings results announcement and follows a recent outage experienced by Amazon AWS a week ago.
