Thousands of international students in Hungary may face tightened scholarship contracts following a scandal at ELTE University.
A recent incident involving historian Alexander Yakobson from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem led to the suspension of his lecture on October 16. Security forces failed to restore order, prompting two ministers and the university rector to demand accountability.

The lecture series is still available on ELTE's website, but only two of the three sessions were attended online due to the disruption. The issue began when students wearing keffiyehs shouted that the lecture was political propaganda supporting Israeli genocide, causing a disturbance that could not be calmed by the lecturer, attendees, or security.
The incident has sparked concern and may lead to changes in scholarship contracts for international students.
