Marcus Wiedower, first sworn into office in 2019, announced his resignation from the Georgia General Assembly to focus on his role at Hillpointe, a real estate development firm.
His immediate resignation from House District 121 triggers a special election in December. Democrat Eric Gisler, currently running for the House seat in 2026, may also choose to run in the special election.
This is not the first special election in recent history for Oconee County, as similar elections were held in 2017 to fill the seats of Rep. Chuck Williams and Regina Quick.
In 2017, Democrats Jonathan Wallace and Deborah Gonzalez won both House seats representing Oconee County.
No comment from Wiedower or other officials is available at this time.
