The Lilongwe Magistrate’s Court has started hearing a case against six men accused of assaulting human rights activist Sylvester Namiwa.
The suspects also face charges of malicious damage to property, including the destruction of a motor vehicle, after a demonstration in Lilongwe in June.
Defense lawyers requested an adjournment, citing lack of charge documents, but the court adjourned the hearing to Tuesday afternoon instead, denying the suspects bail.
No comment from the accused has been reported.
