Villager's Schizophrenic Son Released After 189 Days in Jail

A Villager's schizophrenic son, Kevin Ryan Caton, 42, has been released after 189 days in jail.

Caton pleaded no contest to a charge of battery by strangulation in Sumter County Court and was sentenced to time served and 18 months of probation.

In April, officers responded to an incident at Caton's mother's home in the Village of Moultrie Creek, where she had fled to a neighbor's home after being attacked by her son.

Caton told police that his mother is a "black witch" and she's "been torturing him his whole life."

According to the arrest report, Caton's mother stated that her son began drinking at 8 a.m. that day, became angry, and attacked her, scratching the inside of her mouth and choking her.

She noted that her son is a veteran who suffers from PTSD and schizophrenia, and his condition worsens when he drinks.
