The government of President Javier Milei emerged victorious from Sunday’s legislative election, a crucial test for the two years remaining in his term.

In a stunning result, La Libertad Avanza secured a broad nationwide victory with 40.84% of the vote and even won Buenos Aires province, the Peronist stronghold where Mr. Milei had lost by 13 points in local elections last September 7.

“How beautiful violet looks on the country,”

he exclaimed in a brief burst of euphoria, referring to his party’s color. He then thanked his cabinet ministers and other officials one by one.
