In a crucial Ivy League contest this weekend, Dartmouth football faltered in the fourth quarter, falling 31-10 to Harvard University. Jack Zipper ’28, Abby Byrne ’28, and Kyle Greason ’29 covered the story.
Outside the chilly Harvard Stadium, the Dartmouth Big Green team appeared somber after the defeat. Still wearing their jerseys, several defenders formed a circle with arms around each other. Safety and team captain Sean Williams ’26 encouraged his teammates:
“Look ahead.”
After this moment, the team broke the huddle, headed to the locker room to gather their belongings, and then boarded buses for the trip back to Hanover.
Head coach Sammy McCorkle reflected on the performance:
“It is what it is. We didn’t play the game we wanted to. It's not the outcome we wanted.”
The stadium was filled with many Dartmouth fans energized from tailgates before the game, but the team struggled early on. The Big Green defense allowed Harvard to complete three third downs on the opening drive, quickly falling behind 7-0. Dartmouth’s offense was stalled, forced to punt after only three plays in their first drive.
“We came out excited, ready to go, and we didn’t have a great start,”said starting quarterback Grayson Saunier ’27.
“We can’t be inconsistent … This is the first time we went three-and-out on the first drive all year.”
Author's summary: Dartmouth’s decisive loss to Harvard exposed early game weaknesses and inconsistency but highlighted the team’s resolve to move forward despite setbacks.
