Temwa Chawinga, the league’s two-time Golden Boot winner, is aiming to complete an impressive double with Kansas City Current. For the second straight season, she leads the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) in goals scored, proving her consistency and dominance on the field.
Last year, Chawinga broke multiple records—scoring in eight consecutive matches, reaching 21 goals to set a new regular-season benchmark, and netting against every opponent she faced. The only thing missing from her incredible debut campaign was a major trophy.
This season, her team delivered one of the most commanding performances in NWSL history. Kansas City Current secured the NWSL Shield with several weeks remaining, finishing 21 points ahead of their closest challengers. Yet, Chawinga and her teammates see the mission as incomplete, with the Championship title still within their grasp.
“My focus is to help the team win the league,” she told Olympics.com earlier this year. “Last season we didn’t win the league, but the fans have been supporting us a lot. I want to win the league and give [back to] the fans for the way they have supported us.”
Temwa Chawinga’s record-breaking season with Kansas City Current highlights her determination to reward loyal fans with a long-awaited championship victory.
