Dense fog advisory active for North Bay Interior Valleys and Southern Monterey Bay and Big Sur Coast

Dense Fog Advisory Issued for North Bay and Monterey Bay Regions

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a dense fog advisory early Saturday at 6:14 a.m. for the North Bay Interior Valleys, Southern Monterey Bay, and the Big Sur Coast. The advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m.

“Visibility one half mile or less in dense fog,”

The NWS San Francisco office warns that low visibility could create hazardous driving conditions. Motorists are urged to reduce speed, use headlights, and maintain greater following distances between vehicles.

“If driving, slow down, use your headlights, and leave plenty of distance ahead of you.”

The agency notes that widespread dense fog could drop visibility to below one-quarter mile in some areas. Drivers are advised to use low-beam headlights and prepare for potentially dangerous travel conditions.

When a dense fog advisory is issued, it indicates the presence of widespread fog reducing visibility to a quarter mile or less, increasing risk on the roads. The NWS recommends postponing travel if conditions permit.
