A Los Angeles branch of Gold’s Gym has come under fire following an incident involving singer Tish Hyman, who said her membership was revoked after she complained about a transgender woman in the women’s locker room.
Hyman shared on social media that she had the “worst experience” at the Gold’s Gym location near the Beverly Center in Los Angeles. According to her account, she raised a concern about a transgender woman being in the women’s locker room, after which her membership was reportedly terminated.
“Today I was naked in the locker room. I turned around, and there was a man there.”
Following her post, the gym received a wave of negative feedback. Within 24 hours, more than two dozen one-star reviews appeared on Google, many of them referencing the locker-room dispute. Media reports noted that Gold’s Gym was recently acquired by EoS Fitness.
The dispute has fueled ongoing national discussions about transgender rights and privacy in public spaces across the United States. The controversy also comes amid new federal policies under President Donald Trump, who since returning to office in January has signed several executive orders addressing gender and sports participation, including one titled “Keeping Men Out of Women's Sports.”
Newsweek reached out to the Beverly Center Gold’s Gym for official comment using the contact form on its website.
